  i'd just stand at the door and not knock on it or ring it.

  if someone came, i'd make a presentation - "here's your tract!".

  otherwise i'd just wait a couple of minutes and then go to the next door and not knock.. .

  Me, too! I auxiliary pioneered for four months when I was a teenager without once talking to anyone.

  Witnesses come to my door now about three times a year and I can't remember the last time any of them knocked or rang the bell. If my dogs didn't bark, I'd never know they were there.

  Hoax. Listen to about 10 or 15 of the videos on youtube. On the majority of them, the sound is exactly the same, down to the birds in the background.

  I read about his death yesterday morning and then at lunch, I opened my most recent issue of Vanity Fair to find this, maybe his last published words:

  He takes on Nietzche's phrase, "Whatever doesn't kill me makes me stronger." Brilliant, as always. I recommend reading his other essays on vanityfair.com about his fight with cancer.

  Should Joe Paterno resign over the Penn State child sex abuse scandal?

  first, i don't know if we have had a thread on this yet - so if this is a repost, ignore appropriately.. but i am thoroughly disgusted by this developing scandal - an assistant coach at pen state is accused of multiple, repeated, child sexual offenses.

  a member of the football staff exewitnesses and incident reported it to paterno (years ago, it is reported) - and paterno reported it to the athletic director.

  nothing was done, nothing was reported to the authorities.. finally, the scandal broke over the weekend.. i am deeply dissapointed with paterno - this guy was one of my football heros.

  I think we're looking at hundreds over Sandusky's lifespan. He was 55 in 1999. There's no way the first time he got caught was the first time he molested. Odds are he started in his late teens or early 20s. How could his wife not know? Apparently they've taken in many foster children through the years as well.

  Agreed. Authorities are investigating whether Sandusky was forced to retire in 1999 (after the first police investigation) in exchange for a coverup. Mark Madden reported that yesterday when he talked about the rumor of the boys being pimped out to donors. The other thing he mentioned was that they're also investigating whether the Second Mile was a slush fund to hide payments to athletes.

  As far as the boys being pimped out, I think when they say "wealthy donors", they're not referring to your average charity giver. Pedophiles have always had ways to find each other and once the word got to that network (NAMBLA?) that for the right price, you could have an eight-year-old under the guise of a charity donation, it doesn't seem that far-fetched anymore.

  Anyone who wants to give Paterno a free pass should perhaps first read the grand jury report. He was interviewed a year ago, so this isn't a surprise to Penn State. They're just playing CYA.

  my in-laws really wished they had taken control and homeschooled their one granchild.

  today, i witnessed a middle school bus stop bully and another group of teenaged girls smoking something illegal.

  my 5th grader is headed to middle school next year.

  Whatever curriculum you choose, be sure to check ebay before paying full price. Keep your books clean and you can resell on ebay later. That helped me take the sting out of paying $700 - $800 to Calvert each year.

  And I agree with Six. His daughter is amazing (and he IS an opinionated curmudgeon).
